The development of the sport of orienteering throughout the world has been an important focus of the O-Ringen right since the very first 5-day event was organised in 1965.
The O-Ringen has incorporated some form of training and development activity ever since. Formerly organised under the "Clinics", this aspect of O-Ringen became the "Academy"
in 2005.
The course content has remained similar since the beginning but is now undergoing revision with the expansion of the Academy focus. O-Ringen, which is a part of the Swedish
Orienteering Federation (SOFT), is now focusing on three distinct areas: International, Leadership and
Sports. The reason for this is that we want to expand the range of activities in connection with
O-Ringen and in this way to contribute to both the development of orienteering across the globe and the O-Ringen event itself. The various courses will be conducted by SOFT,
by O-Ringen Academy personnel and by a variety of partner organisations, with the O-Ringen Academy being responsible for overall coordination.
