During O-Ringen Gothenburg 2026 there are competitions for everyone, from the elite fighting for the final victory over five days to those challenging themselves in different classes as well as children and adults who are beginners.

Competing in orienteering over five days/stages is the cornerstone and origin of O-Ringen. That's how it all started in 1965 and that's how most people still participate today, but today there is a wide range of options for those of you looking for something different.

Here's a guide to help you choose the right competition for you. There are competitions over five and three days. You can also choose to run single days.

Elite Tour

For the top foot-O runners in the world. The start fields are selected based on ranking and divided into six classes: D18 Elite, H18 Elite, D20 Elite, H20 Elite, D21 Elite och H21 Elite.

Foot-O

Main classes & short classes (5-days)
Compete against the best in each age group, in our main classes or in short classes. Age and gender classes from DH10 to DH95 will be available.

Recreational classes (5-days)
Easier and shorter courses were the classes are divided by age and gender. Classes from DH21 to DH80.

Open classes (5-days)
Compete with whomever you want on a course you select for yourself. Choose the length and difficulty that suits you. Classes are assigned by course and open for all ages and genders. There is also an Introduction class for our younger runners with a maximum age of 16.

Open classes (3-days)
Get the full O-Ringen experience, but in fewer days. Compete with whomever you want on a course you select for yourself. Choose the length and difficulty that suits you from a selection of seven classes. Classes are assigned by course and open for all ages and genders. 3-days include the last three stages.

Stage start
If you only want to run some of the stages or would like the freedom of selecting a different course for each day, then Stage start is the option for you. You can either sign up for Stage start ahead of time or buy your entries directly at the competition arenas.

You can start whenever you want at each stage you participate in. If you participate in several stages no total time will be given.

MTBO

Main classes (5-days)
Compete against the best in each age group in our main classes. Age and gender classes from DH12 to DH80 will be available.

Open classes (5-days)
Compete with whomever you want on a course you select for yourself. Choose the length and difficulty that suits you. Classes are assigned by course and open for all ages and genders.

Trail-O

Classes for those that want to compete in trail-O for five days. Choose your level of difficulty and sign up for one of the four classes.

Bagheera Youth relay

The traditional relay for clubs or districts that will take place just ahead of the opening ceremony. A perfect start of O-Ringen.

Training maps

Get ready for your real start by testing the terrain in some of our training maps. Before O-Ringen we will have two training areas; Vättlefjäll and Säve Skändla.
