Competing in orienteering over five days/stages is the cornerstone and origin of O-Ringen. That's how it all started in 1965 and that's how most people still participate today, but today there is a wide range of options for those looking for something different.

There are several options to choose from:

Elite Tour, for those who want to run elite class.

Main class, with five days of competition attracts the most participants. In the main class, there is a draw for starting times for everyone except DH75-95 who have a free minute start.

The competition is decided on the last stage with a chase start for everyone except DH10–DH12 and Para-I.

Short class are for adults slightly shorter courses than the main class, but still the same orienteering technical challenge. You have a free start time and choose the start minute when you arrive at your start. On the fifth stage there is a chase start where the first participant to finish is the winner for the week.

The youth short classes are slightly (one level) easier than the corresponding main class and have a random start time during all stages.

Recreational class, easier and shorter courses with free starting time on each stage. From this year, the classes are divided into 10-year intervals.

5-days open class is for those who want to compete freely against themselves and/or others, regardless of gender and age. You choose your own length and difficulty level from a selection of classes and receive a total result.

It is possible to participate without timing.

For younger people, up to and including 16 years, there is also Inskolning. There is a free start time and the results list only shows whether the runner is approved or not. In Inskolning there is a prize for everyone.

3-days open class is created for those who want to experience everything an O-Ringen means, but for various reasons cannot participate in all five stages. In the open 3-day classes you compete freely against yourself and/or others, regardless of gender and age during the last three stages and receive a total result. You choose the length and difficulty level yourself from a selection of classes.

It is possible to participate without timing.

Stage start is for those who want to participate in single days/stages. You can choose from a large selection of classes to find the length and difficulty level that suits you. No overall result is given.

It is possible to participate without timing.

Shadowing
Shadowing and running together are allowed in the Para-I, Inskolning class and in all Open classes as well as in the Stage Start. Shadowing before one's own race is not permitted for runners in ranking merit classes, i.e., DH18, DH20, and DH21. Shadowing maps are provided in the Inskolning and White/Try-it-out classes.
